Goodbye to Annie

With heavy heart, Annie will be put to rest today. After her last series of epileptic seizures she is not herself anymore. She keeps falling down and losing her balance. She doesn't run like a deer anymore, she saunters along and always seems worried that she is going to have another seizure. We love Annie so much and she was a perfect dog bright loving and kind but we don't want her to suffer any more. She is now on the maximum dosage of medication and she seems to be in a fog. We just went for a long hike on the beach. She had wet food(her favourite treat) for breakfast and I spent all morning with her. My three year old said goodbye to her this morning and told her that "grammy and grampy are going to love her" and I am sure they will. : )

Annie

We just began talking about Annie and how it may be time to think about placing Annie in a new home. She had been seizure free for almost 6wks so we thought the increase in phenobarb levels was now working with her system. She must have heard us talking because the next morning Annie had 3 seizures and is now worrying and pacing the floors again. She is finally resting now after her morning run. Her dosage of phenobarb has increased again but it takes a few days for the medication to work. I am worried about leaving and going to work but someone will be checking on her. We will have a add another medication if her seizures continue because she is now at the max. dosage for phenobarb. It is so sad as she is an awesome , smart and loving dog. Hope we find the answers soon. ....
